AIT Advanced Scholarships

Bayer Fund Artists-in-Training Advanced Auditions Application 2019

  • This scholarship was created by Bayer Fund and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis to facilitate and promote the continuing education of Artists-in-Training students. The scholarship is open to all AIT students who have completed their high school diploma and are pursuing applied vocal/music studies in college or privately. This is a competitive scholarship, and it is possible that numerous applicants or none might be selected for an award in a given year. This scholarship also is limited in its financial resources. Therefore, it is unlikely any applicant will receive a full, one-year tuition award. Opera Theatre encourages applicants to seek alternative funding and scholarship support. The decision of the committee is final. Candidates may apply once each year. No student may accrue more than $20,000 of total winnings over the span of this program.

    Application Process

All applications are reviewed by the Opera Theatre staff. Determinations are made as to merit, need and audition. Recipients will be chosen by the General Director and/or Director of Artistic Administration and Education Director in consultation with other key members of Opera Theatre’s artistic staff.

Applications are accepted no later than June 4, 2019. Review and adjudication will take place Tuesday, June 18, 2019 starting at 10:00 AM at the Sally S. Levy Opera Center (210 Hazel Ave, 63119). Notification of results will be made by mail no later than July 1, 2019. Awards are sent directly to the institution, or to the private vocal instructor.

Applicants must have participated in the Artists-in-Training program for a minimum of one academic year and must have a high school diploma. Applicants must possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater, must be between 17 and 26 years of age and must be actively studying voice. Returning applicants who have accrued $20,000 of scholarship support from the Advanced Study Scholarship are not eligible to audition.

All candidates must audition for Opera Theatre staff. No award will be given without an audition. The audition should consist of 1-2 contrasting pieces performed from memory. Repertoire selections may be made from opera, art song and oratorio. Candidates will be contacted to schedule an audition after submitting applications.

    Scholarship Guidelines

Awards may be used for applied vocal/music studies, expenses incurred in college investigation/preparation activities such as testing fees, registration fees, audition/travel expenses, etc. After such activity is approved by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, disbursement of funds can be made upon receipt of documentation which certifies either actual or anticipated costs. Expenses not allowed include but are not limited to: personal living expenses, leisure travel, personal charge accounts or other personal debts or expenses.

    Application Instructions

Incomplete applications and/or failure to adhere to the application instructions will result in the disqualification of a candidate’s application. A complete application must include an education transcript. Transcripts of the most recent year completed must be mailed directly from the institution to Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Attn: Allison Felter, Director of Education and Community Engagement, 210 Hazel Avenue, Saint Louis, Missouri 63119
